Starting a fire is still one of the basic survival skills that will help you in a ton of ways. It helps in keeping you warm during the night, dry your clothes, cook your food, and boil water. A fire also gives you a sense of safety and security especially if you are in the wilderness.
It’s surprising that food is ranked lower than shelter, water, and fire. Food is also important but you can still survive for a couple of weeks without it. That is why the three mentioned above are ranked higher than food.
It’s not that hard to find food when you’re in the wilderness. The wild is filled with a variety of sources of food. You just need to be resourceful. You can look for wild plants or hunt for small animals that can provide you with some of your nutritional needs during survival situations.
Your survival in the wilderness also depends on how much you know about nature. The more you know about it, the more your chances of survival. To be able to survive the wilderness, you must also develop some kind of knowledge about nature and the wild. It requires you to have a certain kind of understanding about nature.
For instance, developing wildlife tracking skills will help you hunt for wild animals so you can have something to eat. Knowledge about herbs and plants can also help you. You’ll be able to identify which ones are safe to eat and which ones can be used as medicine should you get injured.
